History

This year marks the 37th year of the Washington Activity Coordinators Association!

This association's long and heralded history began in 1970 when a group of Seattle area activity coordinators voted to get together and underwrite a conference. With this in mind, the first annual conference was held in the spring of 1971.

Under the direction of Walt Dawson of Shorecrest High School, Coke Roberts of West Seattle High School, Pat Woodward of Cleveland High School and Fritz Mahlert of Nathan Hale High School, funds for the first conference where partially defrayed by the generous contributions of business firms who exhibited their products. This supportive tradition continues today!

The organization's mission:
To promote and provide resources for those involved in student activity programs that actively engage students in a positive learning community.

Guiding beliefs:
1) Provide the opportunity to connect all students in an activity.
2)
Through activities:

- Recognize and celebrate student success.
- Build respect.
- Develop lifelong learners.

Members of WACA include representatives from middle, junior and high schools from a variety of activity areas. Delegates include activity coordinators, cheer coaches, ASB and club advisors, administrators, athletic directors, leadership teachers and activity secretaries.
